So, Kaylan and I watched Pretty Woman tonight, since it was on the Davis Student Housing Channel, or whatever it's called. Hmm.... It actually wasn't THAT bad; kinda cute actually...but MAN is it dated! The music, the cars, the CLOTHES! It makes me sad that probably a lot of the movies that we watch today will probably be the same in like, 15 years.
And now, on a totally different note, I must post some information about Rasputin, since Leah just did a report on him, and told me about him. That guy was crazy!! Just read this bio that I got off encyclopedia.com:
Lived from 1872-1916. Russian “holy man,” a notorious figure at the court of Czar Nicholas II. He was a semiliterate peasant and debauchee who preached and practiced a doctrine of salvation that mixed religious fervor with sexual indulgence. Because of his personal magnetism and his ability to check the bleeding of the czarevich Alexis, who suffered from hemophilia, Rasputin gained a powerful hold over Czarina Alexandra Feodorovna and, through her, over the czar.
Rasputin's disgraceful behavior, the czarina's attempts to shield him, and a series of scandals involving his appointees helped to undermine the imperial government. It was suspected at the time that Rasputin and the czarina were working for a separate peace with Germany. In Dec., 1916, a group of right-wing patriots, including Prince Felix Yussupov and the czar's cousin, Grand Duke Dmitri, conspired to assassinate Rasputin. With an intricate plan, the three invited Rasputin over to the Yusupov Palace on December 30, 1916 to meet the Tsar's beautiful niece. Whi le waiting for her to appear, the men fed Rasputin poisoned wine and tea cakes. This did not affect him. Dismay came over Yusupov and he shot Rasputin. Miraculously, Rasputin staggered out into the courtyard where Purishkevich and Pavlovich were preparing to leave the palace. Purishkevich shot the staggering Rasputin again, but it was only later, when they bound his body and threw it into the Neva River that he died.
This is the creepiest part:
Yes, he is REALLY scary looking. I can't believe they named that CD store after him....
